    DAY 1: Thursday, 7th July

ayub
12:00 AYUB OGADA (Kenya)
Ayub Ogada (vocals, nyatiti, i.e. the African lyre), Trevor Warren (guitars, loops, vocals), Isaac Gem on (bass, guitar, vocals)

Born in Mombasa (Kenya), singer Ayub Ogada is the descendant of the Luo people of Western Kenya, and was influenced by their musical heritage, partly through his parents, who were also musicians. Travelling with them, he experienced their performances of Luo music and its introduction to Kenyan and US audiences. This exposure to both Western and African culture had a profound effect on him. He played various instruments in school bands, and later founded the African Heritage Band, which fused traditional music with the souns of rock and soul. In 1986 he travelled to London, and scraped a living by busking on the city’s streets and the London underground. In 1988, he was approached and asked to play at Peter Gabriel’s WOMAD festival in Cornwall. His breakthrough came there. Since then, his music is on the soundtracks of films such as Samsara (2011) :) He also played roles in several movies, like the Masaii warrior sidekick of Robert Redford in Out of Africa (1985).
London-born musician, composer and producer Trevor Warren travelled to Kenya in 2012, and together with Kenyan musician and engineer Isaac Gem, the three of them composed and recorded the Ayub Oghada album Kodhi (meaning seed in Luo). Trevor Warren began playing the guitar in 1982 and has since released several albums under his own name and that of his bands, Deva and the award winning Disassembler. His music has been used on BBC television, in programmes such as Panorama and True Story.
As Wired Magazine once wrote: "Ogada’s songs are in Luo but presented with translation, and are imparted as half-spoken, half-sung fireside conversation. His is a poetry of both profound mournfulness and deeply humane intelligence, and these are worldly-wise songs of tradition and tragedy: “there’s too much in this world/I haven’t been home in years/I long for the flying ants/And some ghee/I’m tired of this world”. In the background, the gently falling white noise of insects and birds."
It is an honour for us to host the first European appearance by the new band.

Hang Massive @ Tilos Fores Stage last year

13:30 HANG MASSIVE
Following last year's vivid opening perfomance, the hang-drum duo of Swedish Markus Johansson and UK-born Danny Cudd are back on the Tilos Stage. They have been propagating and spreading the sound (well, in Hungarian: hang... with "uh") and vibe of this magical instrument all over the world since 2010.

That success was the basis for a global and dedicated fan base excited to hear more offerings from this unique musical project.
The following years saw Hang Massive release a range of records with a variety of flavors and styles, each one demonstrating their various musical influences and showcasing new ways in which to use the hang in recorded music.
Hang Massive are currently on a global tour. With many successful live events already under their belt and with tours planned in Europe, Russia, India, Australia, New Zealand and beyond, Hang Massive are building on their already well established reputation as producers of great records and are now gaining recognition worldwide as an incredible live act!
Their style of music and more recent fusion with electronic production has further set Hang Massive into a world and genre of their own. Welcome back to Fairyland!

22:00 DJ Adam Salman
The musical arranger behind the concept and the contents of Tilos Stage was born to Hungarian and Iraqi parents, so Adam was naturally exposed to different cultures from the very beginning. He started composing and programming on different music editing software at the age of 12-13. After experminting on computers for several years, he got involved in DJ-ing with his friends at around 15-16. His fascination with the beat led him to explore and get acquainted with ethnic instruments (Arabic and African drums, latin percussion).
At the age of 17, he met the unique Hungarian psychedelic rock band, Tanu Tuva, whose rehearsal room served as a creative gathering place for the musicians' collective to experiment with analogue synthesizers, percussion and flutes. Before his brief university studies they hitch-hiked to Morocco with the ultimate aim of acquiring authentic instruments, with several stops to meet local musicians on the way. Travelling and contacting representatives of other cultures is a recurring theme in his life. He spent several months in Italy, Spain, France, Morocco. His Saturday noon radio show Délibáb (along with DJ Zenit and one-time show-mate Marco Cadena) provides a wild range of musical flavours for an after-party chill with fine blend of dub, fusion, psychedelic, experimental and psy-chill. Tonight you may expect an arabic-tribal-psychedelic-house set to get the groove going.
delibab
00:00 DJ Titusz
DJ and producer veteran from the dawn of the Hungarian acid house party scene, (behind the decks of X-lab series) and dynamic member of the underground music scene ever since, producing music from his own tailor-made house studio, DJ Titusz is a living musical legend in Hungary. These days you can hear him live more often as the producer-dj of several bands (some of them hilariously funny and creative - both lyrically and music-wise be it for adults or for kids (Belga/ChipChipChokas)- others are psychedelic (Carbonfools).

His sanctuary is his very own Tigerdick Studios, where he collects and uses electronic instruments, mostly not hypermodern all-knowing appliances but retro, lo-fi gadgets, and being a dedicated circuit bender, basically anything that gives a sound. He used to be one of the pioneers of radio Tilos, now divides his time between all his musical projects. At Samsara he will play an oldschool acid house set - to strike a virtually nostalgic note.

2:00 Interflug
Did you know that there was a Hungarian producer whose track came out at Hardfloor's label, sharing the two sides of an EP with him? Well, it's high time you check him out. Born Tamás Rostás, he is a graphic designer by day, who got to like electronic music at the beginning of the 90's, influenced by Hardfloor himself, and started mixing and writing music shortly afterwards. His acid house set will surely make even the trees dance!

marcocadena
4:00 Marco Cadena
Before moving away to peaceful Wales, the radio's Hungaro-Mexican DJ was a founder of Délibáb show. As a DJ at Radio Tilos since 2004, he worked on blending as many genres as possible including but not limited to chillout, ambient, jazz, world and all sorts of electronica. He was also involved on and off stage in a wide range of events and festivals and he ventured into rocking dancefloors with tribal, acid, break and trance beats. While living in the UK in the last few years, he has worked on social and environmental justice activism at international level, and his aim is to build more bridges between the creative scenes and progressive movements around the world, to inspire and foster real positive change in the world. To Samsara's Tilos stage Marco promised to bring a sweet blend of acid, tribal and electronic beats, while having a big heap of chillout, world and ambient music ready to be heard across the fields and woods.

    DAY 3: Saturday, 9th July

12:00 Ancient Core (Ro)
Mihai Cadar and Alex Bodochi, 2 young talented musicians from Cluj/Transylvania/Romania, created Ancient Core in 2008 - a psychedelic downtempo/psydubby project. Weaving modern musical technics, sounds and psychedelic effects with an artistic vision impregnated by ancient Transylvanian folklore, letting their innermost feelings trace the path to follow....this is in some words Ancient Core's musical contour.

Music takes shape from the magical world of Transylvania with its archaic landscapes, from wild nature, people, LOVE and everything that is positively out-of-space in this Universe...these are the inspiration sources for Ancient Core's music bringing together Life, Joy, Freedom, LOVE, Tradition and a feeling of a mountain river flow... sometimes clear and joyful... sometimes deep, whirling and more melancholic... but always flowing... happy to embrace and absorb the majestic beauty of this unique life travel.

sanyi
Sanyi @ Tilos Forest Stage last year

14:00 DJ Sanyi
The one and only Hungarian female DJ operating under the disguise of a guy's name, Sanyi (or Kinga) is a multi-focused media-artist and event organiser (to cut it short). Among others, the line-up of this stage would be somewhat different, would it be not for her, and her partner, Adam Salman, together with whom they conceptualised this hopefully exciting underground slice of Budapest night life - at the crossroads and in the wonder woods of Samsara.
Her weekly music show introduces various genres and themes of music mainly based on and from the seventies, while her experimental spoken word+music show features various texts and readers to a musical backdrop of a wide range of genres. You can listen to it live on Sunday (Kelta karó feat. Adam). This day she will take you on a hip trip hop trip, with your favourite movie soundtracks, moon landing, birds and whales.

17:00 Bahama Káosz
His music will talk to the Buddhist in you! And to any generation. His radio show Adventures of Captain Káosz (yes, you guessed right, it means chaos in Hungarian) shows the broad spectrum of his interests. Expect a colourful set of psychedelic tracks - through the woods and the universe. (And should you bump into him (and his family) around the festival with a mike in his hand, tell something clever and be nice to the audience - who may be sitting anywhere in the world by their computer, or any wifi-enabled device.)

19:00 KONTAKTON
THe Hungarian duo of József Nagy and Péter Bárdos have been experimenting with different orchestration since their foundation in 2010. Their trippy electronic music encompasses their experience with different musicians. Their zig-zag melodies, sometimes broken, elsewhere thumping, springing rhythms transmit swinging atmospheres, rhapsodic stories erupting out of monotonousness.

21:00 LONG ARM (Russia)
Orenburg, a southern Russian city close to the Kazakhstan border, is home to Long Arm, AKA Georgii Kotunov, whose jazz-influenced, semi-improvised beats will definitely awaken the spirits of the forest. Starting out with DIY musical equipment built from Soviet phonographs, he's gone on to develop a baroque, semi-improvised technique informed by his study of jazz.

22:30 CHANGING GREY (Live)

Changing Grey is an immersive audiovisual live act combining the talents of two Hungarian maestros, Balázs Zságer of Zagar and András Genser aka Add2Basket. Inspired by timeless influences such as The Doors, Pink Floyd as well as modern virtuosos including Kiasmos or Floating Points, Changing Grey composes a lifetime of musical passion into a tantalizingly live electronic music performance.
Zságer conducts his talents from behind the Rhodes and synths, while Genser takes care of the programming and electronica—but make no mistake, nothing’s pre-programmed. From the sounds to the visuals, each Changing Grey show is unequivocally unique; filled with improvisations and on-the-fly elements. Expanding the horizons of musical bliss, Changing Grey extends electronica beyond the next step.

00:00 DJ Palotai
The grandmaster of the radio, have inspired generations of DJs and party-goers for decades - from shabby clubs right after the "Transition", through his ever-changing "residency" at te Rewind series he has been co-hosting, to big festivals on several continents. If you've ever lived in Budapest for the past few decades, you must have attended at least a handful of parties he was featured at. His diverse musical taste and preferences have been broadcast on Tilos Wednesdays and Saturdays from the very beginning, and he really is up-to-date on genres you've never heard of. For this occasion, he has been asked to dig his tribal records and tunes of any format.

2:00 Aurafood
Hosszú and Ivy (analogue synths and programming)

The duo of Tomi Hosszú and Zsolti "Ivy" Iványi will play somewhat lower tempo music than they usually do. Featuring a Supernova synth, handled, twisted and touched by Ivy - graphics designer by day (and often also by night) and friend and helper of Ozric Tenticles, and Tomi at the controls. To continue with the OZ-es, the band was formed in 2004 at O.Z.O.R.A. festival, and have been playing there and at all sorts of underground festivals and parties since. And not for the first time in the forest!

03:30 DJ Oleg
You can spot veteran openair-party and festival organiser DJ Oleg at his most laid back state at other festivals than he organises, so it will be a nice occasion to experience him in an inspired mood. His main project is now Solar.United.Natives, or S.U.N. festival, which you may easily check out after Samsara if you stay in the country.

6:00 DJ Zenit
The tall and skinny guy is a house and event-space owner at the Valley of Arts - but you never see him standing on one leg. A sociologist by profession, club owner by day (and night), kung fu trainer in the afternoons, he is one half of Saturday noon chill show Délibáb (Mirage). Oh, and have you heard of the psybient pack? ok, maybe that's enough.

    DAY 4: Sunday, 10th July

12:00 Shivacult
"Meditation is not something that you do; Meditation is something that you become." - Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

The performance by Indian-born, Budapest-based artist, Harshavardhan Sreedhar will explore meditative and self inquiry possibilities using contemporary electronic dronescapes and the ancient Indian classical raga system. Sounds of foliage will be used to support this musical exploration, in order to provide a context for the listener to meditate/self inquire upon. The ultimate objective of the performance is to equip the listener with a tool to feel the silence within and provide a possibility for inner exploration.
"Your own self-realisation is the greatest service you can render the world" - Bhagawan Sri Ramana Maharshi

13:30 Kelta karó feat Adam Salman (live radio show)
Listen to what would be going on (and on) on the frequency of Radio Tilos at this time of the day. Experimental spoken-word show with musical accompaniment.

16:00 BELAU
“Take You to The Sea” – claims Belau about their compositions. Belau started as a solo project by Peter Kedves in 2015. He was inspired by his travels and adventures abroad. The idea to translate his experiences into music came to him in a beautiful, remote village on the pristine Croatian seashore. In the world of Belau a constant buoyant mood and a sense of optimism meets innovative electronic beats. The message of Belau is a simple one: leave the busy-ness and monotony of everyday life behind, get rid of our barriers, and experience every moment to its fullest. Belau takes their listeners to cheerful places, filled with sunshine, where one can relax, unwind and find peace and harmony. The music starts you on an inner journey which is a gift in our world of increasing isolation. This genre of elegant and clean beats capturing the feeling of summer has been dubbed as sundowntempo. Belau’s debut song, Island of Promise, is being released in September. A single-take music video has been shot for the song by critically acclaimed and award winning Attila Damokos. Island of Promise video won the Hungarian Video Music Award’s Special Prize. The long term goals of the ever-growing Belau project include the creation of multiple concept LPs, each capturing the vibe of a different geographical region around the world.

18:00 ANU MAURI
Anna Kürtös (composer, leading and backing vocals, keyboards), Tamás Baranyi (leading and backing vocals, yang qin, santur, guitar, percussion),Darren Brown (bass, vocals, percussion) István Katona (percussion) Bálint (keyboards)

Anna Kürtös and Tamás Baranyi - the founding members of Anu Mauri - first met in 2005 through their admiration of Dead Can Dance and other spiritual/world fusion bands. Their shared desire to venture into similar heights and depths on the journey of musical self-discovery as Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry did back in the 80’s and 90’s was the propulsive force that – through many incarnations – eventually led to the birth of Anu Mauri.
The style of the band can be identified as “ethereal” or “spiritual world fusion” with many ambient elements, reminiscent not only of Dead Can Dance but also Loreena McKennitt, Vangelis or even Enya.
The primary song writer of the group is Anna, who is also a frequent source of the many Celtic/Irish and ambient traits that can be discovered in the songs. The other songwriter, Tamas has dynamic compositions which are also less definable in terms of traditional musical genre and style as they incorporate so many – ancient, Eastern, sometimes even Medieval, Gregorian chant-like – elements. They were joined by bassist/vocalist/percussionist Darren Brown and percussionist, István Katona, who broadened their horizons not only through his vast array of percussion instruments but also through his effects-driven guitar melodies. They made their first EP in 2015, and then they gave a concert on A38, in May. Bálint joined the band afterwards, in 2016.

19:30 ÚZGIN ŰVER meets Tschernodeal (H/F)
Psychedelic ethno-fusion band, formed in 1991 in the Great Planes of Hungary, named after a Mongolian settlement, where an ancient sacred burial ground was discovered. It means something like ‘dry desert area’, ‘poor harvest’. Their aim from the beginning has been to create a unique blend of the folk music of different nations, using old and new instruments, sounds and tunes. From the Carpathian Basin to Mongolia, they are working with Balkan, Turkish, Iranian and Armenian melodies in their mind. But their songs are not transcriptions, they create their own music. Further influences are jazz and rock, breakbeat and dub, contemporary and ancient music. At Samsara they will be featuring the French Tschernodeal!

    Stencil workshop by street-artist Void
Draw your own patterns, cut them out, and spray them - even on your T-shirt!
There will be A4 papers available aplenty, with all necessary raw materials - but you will need to find the surface you want to use. At the end of the festival, a big communal painting is to be displayed.

Music Conductor workshop by bandmembers from Bélaműhely
Wanna play ghettomarimbula? or cycledrums? or a wheelpipe? or you want to make a complete orchestration with these D-I-Y instruments? Visit the Tilos Stage in the afternoons, and members of the crazily creative Bélaműhely will help you achieve your dream!
